All OAL computers now have VLC Media Player and are able to play Blu-Rays and DVDs through an external disc player. External players are available for check out at the Annex front desk and can be connected to the OAL computers. Click here for Availability.

 

How To Set Up the External Player to OAL computers:

  1. Connect an external Blu-Ray/DVD player to an OAL computer
  2. If using the Libraries 4K players, connect the player by one of these methods
    • Use the Micro B to USB-C cable by plugging the Micro B end to the back of the player and the USB-C end to the USB-C port on the side of an OAL computer
    • OR: use the Y cable by plugging in the Micro B end to the port on the back of the player; plug the USB-A end of the Y cable into the USB-A port on the side of an OAL computer; plug the other USB-A end into a USB outlet.
  3. If using the Libraries Non-4K players, there are two cords and both must be connected:
    • Plug the Micro-B end into the port on the back of the player; plug the USB-A end of this cord to the USB-A port on the side of an OAL computer.
    • Plug the cylinder end of the other cord into the power port on the back of the player; plus the USB-A end of this cord into a USB outlet

 

How to play a standard DVD (not Blu-Ray):

  1. Open VLC Media Player, click start, type VLC, click "open"
  2. Click "Media" in the upper left corner
  3. Select "Open Disc"
  4. The Disc Selection menu should pop up; make sure DVD is selected
  5. Click "Play" and the DVD should begin playing.

 

How to play Blu-Rays: (VLC Media Player needs to be configured for each user)

  1. Open VLC Media Player, click start, type VLC, click "open"
  2. Click the "Tools" tab
  3. Select Preferences"
  4. Under "Show Settings" (at the bottom) select "All"
  5. Under "Input/Codecs" find "Access Modules" and click the dropdown arrow:
  6. Select "Blu-Ray"
  7. Click the dropdown arrow next to "Region Code" and change it to "A"
  8. Click "Save"
  9. Go to "Media" tab
  10. Select "Open Disc"
  11. Under "Disc Selection", select "Blu-Ray" then "Play." The Blu-Ray disc should now be playing. Note: If you receive an error message, please double check that the region was correctly changed to "A" in step 7 above.
